Present

position is that whole of the area has been evacuated

under compensation scheme mentioned in my despatch of June

22nd 1936 except as regards four horels beneath Western

Well whoɛe tenants are being encouraged to hold out by

Cantonese officials. I request renewal of authority

conveyed by your telegram: 9th August 1935 to take ? compulsory

conciliatory steps for deir eviction and the Ambaseador will explain position to Watchlaopu after his return to

Wanking on 9th April unt:1 which date I will take no

action.

Ambassador agrees with this course.
